Navigating Federal Scheduling Requirements: What You Need to Know Before Contract Award

If you’re pursuing or managing federal contracts, you already know that project management and controls in the federal government operate differently than in the private sector. But here’s what can catch you off guard: if you don’t fully understand these requirements before contract award, they can significantly impact your project execution and compliance.

Federal aerospace and energy programs established under cost-plus contracts often require you to implement Integrated Master Schedules (IMS) and Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS). Certain federal construction projects demand that you develop CLIN-based cost-loading and submit SDEF files. These aren’t optional—they’re contractual obligations that you need to navigate successfully from day one.

This session will walk you through the practical implementation of federal scheduling regulations for U.S. construction and aerospace projects and programs. You’ll gain clarity on what federal agencies expect, why these requirements exist, and how you can structure your scheduling approach to meet compliance standards while managing your projects effectively.

Whether you’re new to federal contracting or looking to deepen your understanding of government scheduling criteria, this session will equip you with the foundational knowledge you need to confidently handle federal project requirements.

Here’s what you’ll gain by attending this session:

  • Control Account-Level Scheduling: Understand how to structure and manage your schedules at the control account level to meet federal compliance requirements.
  • Cost/Schedule Integration: Learn how to integrate your cost and schedule data effectively to satisfy federal project management standards.
  • Schedule Margin and Contingency: Discover how to approach schedule margin and contingency on federal projects—and how it differs from private sector practices.
  • Level of Schedule Oversight: Gain insight into the varying levels of schedule oversight you’ll encounter across different federal programs and agencies.
  • Schedule Interface Management: Explore the requirements and best practices for managing schedule interfaces on your federal projects.
  • Progress Payments and Schedule: Understand the critical connection between your scheduling compliance and the progress payment process in federal contracting.
