Management of Change:
The ‘Heart and Soul’ of Project Controls
In the dynamic landscape of project management, the ability to adapt and manage change is not just beneficial; it’s essential. Despite best efforts in planning, many projects still face unexpected setbacks that lead to cost overruns and delayed timelines. This is where the importance of a robust Management of Change (MOC) process becomes clear.
According to a 2015 Construction Industry Institute study, 65% of mega projects fail due to poor planning, scope creep, and inadequate change. Management of Change (MOC) not only addresses these issues but also provides actionable strategies to mitigate them.
This session takes you straight to the core of why most large-scale projects fall short—and what you can do to change the outcome. We’ll break down how changes are defined, tracked, and incorporated into project cost reports, CPM schedules, and progress curves. You’ll also gain clarity on the role of project controls in the contract change process and learn how to manage scope deviations, schedule authority, and contingency planning more effectively. From FEED to execution, you’ll walk away with a practical understanding of how a disciplined change management strategy can improve transparency, decision-making, and project outcomes.
Here’s what you’ll gain by attending this session:
- A deeper understanding of how effective Management of Change ties directly to strong project control.
- Clarity on the three key MOC processes—PMOC, CE-MOC, and CC—and why each deserves its own focus.
- Actionable techniques for implementing controls that help manage change across cost, schedule, and scope.
- Insights that will help you gain better control over your project’s performance and reduce the risk of failure.
