About
Ulviyya Aghayeva is an accomplished Project Controls Leader with over 22 years of experience. Her career began with BP Azerbaijan and has since taken her through impactful roles at leading global firms such as Chevron Phillips, Exxon Mobil, Lyondell Basell, and Albemarle. She has accumulated deep expertise working across major upstream, midstream, and downstream projects internationally, including assignments in Malaysia, South Korea, Qatar, and Dubai. In roles ranging from Cost Manager to Project Controls Director, she has managed a diverse portfolio of projects—spanning small, medium, and large scales as well as mega-projects with total installed costs (TIC) of up to $25 billion.
Currently, Ulviyya serves as the Sr. Director of Project Controls – Energy Storage Global Business Unit (GBU) at Albemarle Corporation. In this role, she leads a team of 7 direct and 35 indirect reports across regions, including the US, Australia, Chile, and China, reporting to the GBU COO and functionally to the SVP of Capital Projects. Her scope encompasses critical project controls disciplines, including Estimating, Cost Management, Change Management, Planning and Scheduling, and Risk Management.
A multilingual professional fluent in Azerbaijani, English, Turkish, and Russian, Ulviyya is also learning Spanish and actively fosters a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace. With advanced expertise in SAP, Kildrummy Cost Manager, EcoSys, and Ares Prism, as well as intermediate proficiency in Primavera P6, MS Project, and Oracle Schedule Reader, she has led numerous software implementations, enhancing project controls capabilities across her organizations.
Ulviyya holds both a Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering (with honors) and a Master’s degree in Economics (with honors) from Azerbaijan State Institute of Oil and Industry. She is also qualified by CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, UK) in Finance and is an active member of AACEI and CII, contributing her insights and expertise to the field.
